After Michael's success in the Jerwood Painting Prize 2009 and his Treignac Residency in France; This show is primarily concerned with unearthing the links between painting and performance. Looking at both, painting as a final outcome and as an ongoing process, the show features a live performance work. Named after the flower, which was said to have grown from of the remains of the tragic hero Narcissus who; so captivated by his own beauty, died by his own reflection, ‘Narcissi’ is the first U.K. solo exhibition by Michael Cassidy.

Negotiating a practice whilst raising a young child has forced Kit to consider the parallels between these two major responsibilities. The work she makes involves ridiculous and arduous processes resulting in objects, performances and installations. Pieces are often slight, fragile and absurd and their subtext often channels the experience and involvement with her child’s own development.
The works in her shows create dense and concentrated moments of hope, tenacity and failure. Each piece tackles her new cultural and parental position and exemplifies the idiosyncratic and obsessive compulsive aesthetics she’s known for. Kit is currently shortlisted for the Northern Futures Art Prize; this will be her first solo exhibit at Badept
